With the support and cooperation of area organizations, 10,000 diapers and 17 boxes of baby wipes will be delivered to the hard hit northeast in the wake of super storm Sandy.  Ashburn Rotary partnered with Rebecca Probst with Serve a Village in Great Falls to donate diapers and the baby wipes while Bill Paxton, with the Great Falls Rotary Club, is transporting the donations to New York.

The Ashburn Rotary Diaper Bank was established last year in partnership with Virginia Commerce Bank and is quickly becoming a resource for mothers who often have to choose between feeding their children and putting clean diapers on them.  Diaper bank coordinator and Ashburn Rotarian Linda Carducci (pictured below) said, “It is such a delight to be able to work with others whose notion of service extends beyond immediate family and associates to include the larger community.  These diapers have helped countless mothers and children in Northern Virginia, most particularly in Loudoun County.”

Diaper drives are scheduled at least two times a year, spearheaded by Leah Day, Ashburn Rotarian and manager of the Virginia Commerce Bank Leesburg branch.  One to two thousand diapers are distributed each month to various agencies including INOVA Loudoun, Loudoun Community Health Center, Homestretch, and Loudoun Cares.  To date, over 50,000 diapers have been collected with the hope that continued support from the Loudoun community will enable the club to distribute about 5,000 diapers every month.
