Club Seeks Outbound Students and Local Host Families for 2014 School Year

Ashburn, VA September 3 – The Ashburn Rotary Club is seeking students between the ages of 15 and 18 who areinterested in traveling abroad as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Students typically live abroad over a 10 -12 month period, attend school, and live with more than one family in their host country.

Rotary encourages students to take their sophomore or junior year abroad. In this way, they return to their American high school for at least one year before graduating. However seniors may apply and defer college one year while they complete the exchange program. Qualified students should not be older than 18 1⁄2 years old when they depart in July or August 2014.

Ideal candidates are young open-minded individuals who demonstrate leadership qualities that enable them to become excellent cultural ambassadors for their country and the Rotary Club that supports them. Applicants are not required to be involved with Rotary in any way before applying.

The application deadline for outbound students is Friday, October 19, 2013.

Ashburn Rotary is also seeking families to host an inbound student for the coming 2014-15 school year. Families commit to hosting one student for a 3 – 6 month period. Involvement with an exchange student challenges a host family to become familiar with another culture, while providing the opportunity learn and grow with your family as the student experiences life abroad . These challenges and opportunities promise to enrich the lives of every member of your family.
