Thousands of hours of volunteer service go unrecognized each year.  This year, Ashburn Rotary is participating in a District program to recognize unusually dedicated community leaders through a Citizen of the Year award.  The recipient is to be chosen from the general public through nominations submitted by club members.  This award is intended to recognize an individual who has stood out among the many unsung residents and heroes who have worked so hard serving our youth, our schools, public safety, land use, transportation, the environment and more.  Rotarians are excluded from this award.

The Ashburn Rotary Citizen of the Year will receive a District Governor Citation and will also be submitted as a nominee at the District level.  The individual chosen as the Rotary District 7610 Citizen of the Year will be invited to the District Foundation Awards banquet in November 2012 and will receive a Paul Harris Fellow Recognition.  This is one of Rotary's most prestigious recognition awards.
