The Rotary Club of Ashburn, VA is pleased to welcome this week's guest speaker, Davida Luehrs founder of the No.VA Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
 
A very active volunteer in her community since moving to Reston in 1991, Davida Luehrs has served in a number of leadership roles in the PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Herndon HS Band program.  Davida joined the Sterling Lions in June of 2009 and within a year was serving as First Vice President.  For the last 3 years she has served in two District capacities for the No.VA Lions; as a Region 111 chair and District Sight Conservation, Preservation and Awareness Chair  (Sight Chair) .
 
Davida founded the No.VA Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness in 2005, helping to raise over 2 million dollars for research to end blinding retinal diseases.  Her chapter hosts public informational events, and offers support and resource information to those dealing with vision loss. 
 
She has received several honors in the last few years, 2014 Foundation Fighting Blindness Mid Atlantic Volunteer of the year, was a Best of Reston Honoree in 2013, and is a Lions Club International Melvin Jones Fellow. In 2013 she was invited to join the Board of the Foundation as a National Trustee. 
 
She and her husband Lion Jim have lived in Reston since 1991 and have three grown children, Jessica Rachel and Jimmy, a Lt in the Naval Nursing Corps, a FCPS teacher and a high school track coach. Before becoming a stay at home Mom, Davida was an Account Executive for a national advertising agency.
