Dr. David Goodfriend to Speak

The Rotary Club of Ashburn, VA is pleased to welcome Dr. David Goodfriend as our guest speaker this week.
Dr. David Goodfriend is Director of the Virginia Department of Health’s Loudoun Health District, which provides local public health services for the residents, businesses and officials of Loudoun County, Virginia and its visitors. He provides strategic leadership for District staff and serves as a resource for community stakeholders in the Commonwealth’s fastest growing county. Since beginning his current position in 2001, Dr. Goodfriend has addressed such diverse issues in Loudoun County as groundwater contamination, H1N1 influenza pandemic, anthrax, an outbreak of malaria, increasing gaps in access to medical, and protecting Loudoun County from Ebola virus. Current focus of activities includes improving the District’s ability to respond to Zika virus, public health emergencies, improving the capacity of the private medical and dental communities to provide services to low income residents, and improving the efficiency and quality of the District’s business operations.
Immediately before joining the Loudoun Health District, Dr. Goodfriend served as Health Director for Virginia’s Piedmont Health District from 1999 to 2001. Prior to that, he served four years in the United States Navy as a medical officer at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital and at the Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. Dr. Goodfriend has a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland. He is Board Certified in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Goodfriend has served on numerous Boards and committees, some of the current ones include the Loudoun Health Council, Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Infection Control Committee, the Northern Virginia Emergency Response System (NVERS) Steering Committee, and the INMED-MotherNet/ Healthy Families Advisory Board.
Dr. Goodfriend resides in Ashburn, Virginia, with his wife, Lynda, an Emergency Department Nurse, and his children, Gabriela, Emma and Julia.
