The Rotary Club of Ashburn, Va is pleased to welcome District 7610 Governor 2016-2017 Janet L. S. Brown as the special guest speaker 
 
District 7610 Governor Brown grew up in Mobile, Alabama, the eldest daughter of Rev, Dr. Benjamin J. Simms, who played an active role in the Montgomery Boycott. Graduated from Alabama State University, Dean's list, with double major, earning degrees in Sociology and Psychology. Master of Social Work (MSW) University of Hawaii; and PhD, Kansas State University, Adult Education. Certified Family Mediator, in both Circuit Court-Family and Juvenile & District Court (J&DR) mediation; member of Fredericksburg Area Collaborative Professionals. Serve as a Coach on a team of Professionals working together to help families deal with the emotional and financial complexities of divorce.

Janet began her federal career a social work in Hawaii, rapidly progress from there to positions of more supervision, leadership, authority, and responsibility, to include. Director of a Halfway house, Ft Riley Kansas, Chief of Training and Development, USMA, West Point, Branch Chief Personnel Management, Personnel Command (PERSCOM), Director of Human Recourses, The General Services Administration (GSA), National Capitol Region, and at The Peace Corp, headquarters. Janet's awards & memberships include, Who's who in American Education, Who' who in the South and Southwest, Mental Health Excellence Award. Memberships include Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, INC. National Association of Social Workers (NASW); Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM), Virginia Mediation Network; (VMN), Fredericksburg Area Collaborative Professionals; and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP.. Janet is President/CEO, JB Associates, offering conflict resolution services, to include mediation human resources training, individual and family counseling.

Janet is a member of the Rappahannock Fredericksburg Rotary Club since 1994, with perfect attendance. She has held positions as Club President, International Service Director, Chair of the Discovery, Individual volunteer service grants both at the local and district levels. Other positions held International Service Resource contact, Area Membership Coordinator, Membership Development, member of the District Future Vision Committee, Caribbean Partnership Committee; AG, and Area 5, RIY 2014- She has completed Rotary Leadership Institute, all three parts and is a faculty member.

While President (2011-12), the club received the following awards and recognitions both at the District and Rotary International Membership Development Initiatives Award; Rotary International Change Maker Award; Rotary International Change Maker Award to Fredericksburg Christian High School Interact Club; District Governor's Citation Awards; and Rotary District Exceptional Club Award. Janet is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, Paul Harris Society member, major donor, benefactor, and Bequest Society Member Benefactor and Major Donor. Her husband, sister, two (2) sons and grandson are Paul Harris Fellows.
