Serve a Village and Northern Virginia Diaper Bank Collaborate to Collect Diapers for Local Service Organizations

Beginning May 15th, United Bank will host a diaper drive at 20 branch locations in Northern Virginia and Washington DC.  Donations will be accepted through June 30, 2013.  On average it costs $120/month to provide the diaper wipes and 8-10 diapers per day that a baby needs.  Working together, Serve a Village and Northern Virginia Diaper Bank will collect donated diapers and wipes and provide them to local community service organizations that distribute them, free of charge, to mothers and babies in need.

Unopened packages of all sizes and brands of diapers, potty trainers, and overnight diapers for infants and toddlers will be collected. The most requested sizes are size 4-6.  Monetary donations are also accepted and will be used only to purchase diapers and diaper wipes.

Every baby has a basic need to be kept clean and dry by having an adequate supply of diapers and diaper wipes, yet some mothers are unable to pay for this unavoidable necessity and are forced to choose between purchasing diapers and purchasing other basic necessities.  Families in need are unable to obtain assistance with this expense through Federal aid programs such as Food Stamps, The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
