President's Message
Jimmy Olevson

By now you can probably rattle off at least 4 or 5 of the 10...11...things we do. What's the common theme with all our events? They are fun and provide fellowship opportunities!

The next opportunity to get involved is by going to Ashburn Pub this Tuesday the 28th at 7pm for our Trivia Night. Yes, you are able to get involved by simply going to a local watering hole and playing trivia with your friends all while getting free hugs at the door.

I am so proud to be a member of this club with all you fine people and I sincerely thank you for all you do. See you Tuesday night and then Thursday for lunch!

Dr. Grace B. Sese to Speak
The Rotary Club of Ashburn, VA is pleased to welcome Dr. Grace B. Sese as this week's guest speaker.

Dr. Sese, who is board-certified in clinical pathology and holds medical licenses in DC, Maryland and Virginia, treats patients on a regular basis and also serves as the Medical Director of Inova Blood Donor Services and as the Medical Director for Inova Fairfax Medical Campus/Inova Schar Cancer Institute Apheresis Services. In her role as Medical Director of Inova Blood Donor Services (IBDS), Dr. Sese works closely with the Director of IBDS, Terri Craddock, in order to ensure IBDS is in compliance with Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and standards set by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). As Medical Director of IBDS, Dr. Sese is a vital team member often providing care at IBDS donor centers and mobile blood drives to ensure donors are properly cared for during their life-saving donations.

In addition to those roles, Dr. Sese is also the Associate Medical Director at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus Blood Bank and Clinical Laboratories. She is a FACT (Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) Medical and Facility Director. Dr. Sese is a FACT Inspector as well. Dr. Sese participates as a member of the Blood Utilization Review Committee at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus and the Blood Management Program at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.

Dr. Sese’s prestigious training background includes completing a pathology residency at Washington Hospital Center and a transfusion medicine fellowship completed at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She received her board certification in clinical pathology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University Hospital’s pathology program.

Steuart Weller Project Continues
The Rotary Club of Ashburn's BOD authorized the use of $400 of club funds to help with two fantastic service projects with Steuart Weller Elementary:
  1. Book Drive: From the $400, $150 will be given as credits towards several SW students to be used to purchase books during the school’s upcoming book drive, which begins on Monday March 13.  Several of the afore-mentioned “high opportunity” families will have students that benefit from these funds.
  2. Spring Break Mini-Food Drive: The remaining $250 of earmarked funds will go towards purchasing meals for SW students and families, who rely heavily on the school’s free and reduced meal program.  The meals will feed these families during the school’s upcoming spring break period.
If you would like to help with either of these great projects, please contact Susan Mullen.
Diaper Bank Update
Hi to all,
We are serving 208 children this month and will deliver 6,389 diapers to needy children.  We have given 29,469 diapers away since the start of the Rotary fiscal year July 1, 2016.  We have already initiated discussion with My Pham, Tams Baer and the Rotary Club’s partners at Giant Stores regarding another Diaper Bank; tentatively scheduled for late summer/early Fall 2017.
