Rotary International News and Events

NOVEMBER 28, 2017 IS GIVING TUESDAY -- Making a contribution to The Rotary Foundation is an excellent way to give back this year -- your contributions help eradicate polio, promote peace and conflict resolution, support education, prevent disease, and end hunger!  So, while preparing your lists this year, be sure to set aside a little something for The Rotary Foundation!  Together, a little goes a long way!

Kenneth Courter
Dear Rotarians:
Enjoy your Thanksgiving Feast. This is a great celebration of the bounty we have been blessed with in the United States. In our never ending quest to help those less fortunate please volunteer and serve on the following Rotary projects:

Elections are upon us and the ideal time to step forward and lead our club to the next level of Rotary work.  You qualify as a perfect candidate.

Signup for the Salvation Bell Ringing.  We have a few hours available at area Giants.

The Toy Drive starts today.  You can buy a new toy or donate a slightly used toy to those in need. This campaign is with our grant recipient It Takes a Village Baby! During the weekend of December 9th we are returning to the Cascades Library to help distribute toys and diapers to the needy. You will receive a Signup from ITAVB! Please volunteer.

Don't forget the Holiday party. Yes we will have a gift exchange at Black Finn on December 14th.

Do you have any old computers for Eagle Ridge? This request by their students is to help Lee County, the poorest in the Commenwealth.  A donation box will be at the December 7th.

Also on December 7th the District Governor will be attending our club meeting. Please attend and show her why we are considered the best Club in the District. A Board of Directors meeting will proceed the Club meeting in the 1757 Boardroom at 11 am.

The meeting on the December 7th is the culmination of the Toy Drive.  Bring new or slightly used toys to the Club Meeting. JK Moving will have a vehicle on hand to take them to the North Pole.

Happy Holidays!
Ken, President, Rotary Club of Ashburn, VA

Ashburn Rotary Toy Drive to Benefit  IT TAKES A VILLAGE, BABY!
Join us on December 7th at 1757 Golf Club for our 2017 toy drive benefiting It Takes a Village, Baby! Click for more details.

We need everyone's support in order to make sure these childern have toys this holiday season. Check out the Amazon wish list below to make ordering easier, but please feel free to purchase any toy. We will also accept used toys in new condition. Please bring your toy donations to the Rotary meeting on December 7th.

Toys purchased off the wishlist will ship directly to Ken Courter’s house so don’t worry about transporting the toys. More toys will be added to the list as needed.

For used toys, here are some guidelines:

  • Please only donate toys in very good used condition.
  • All pieces should be bagged together. For example, if you have a large toy ship that has pieces, please bag the smaller pieces up and attach to the large ship.
  • Puzzles should have all pieces and be either saran wrapped or zip lock bagged so no pieces are lost.
  • All battery operated toys need to be tested and with working batteries.
  • Books should be in excellent condition.
  • Please, no Happy Meal or other throw-away type toys.

The Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:

Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
